17.3.8 Hospital Beds (Manual and Electric)
The rental or purchase of the following beds and cribs may be reimbursed:
• Manual or an electric hospital bed with or without a mattress
•Hospital crib
•Enclosed bed
•Accessories (e.g., safety enclosure frame or canopy)
A rental may be approved if the need is short-term and will not exceed 6 months, (e.g., postsurgery or life expectancy of 6 months or less as certified by the prescribing physician). The anticipated total rental cost must be less than the purchase price.
A purchase may be approved for the long-term care of clients whose conditions have progressed to the point that they are severely neurologically or orthopedically limited, etc.
