24.2.9.2 Complete Blood Count (CBC)
Blood counts must be billed using the most comprehensive code that describes all the services rendered on that day. If individual components of a blood count test are performed on the same day, they may not be billed separately. If two or more of the components are performed on the same day, they must be combined and billed with the blood count code that most accurately reflects the test provided.
If procedure code 85032 or procedure code 85049 is performed on the same day by the same provider as a CBC, use procedure code 85025 or 87027.
If procedure code 85032 or 85049 is billed on the same day by the same provider as procedure code 85025 or 85027, then procedure code 85032 or 85049 is denied as part of another procedure.
Procedure code 85008 is not paid when performed on the same day by the same provider as procedure code 85025 or 85027.
Procedure code 85008 can be billed the same day of service by the same provider as procedure code 85014 or 85018.
The following specialized blood counts (procedure codes 85044, 85045, and 85046) may be reimbursed in addition to a CBC when performed on the same day.
