24.3.20.9 Intracranial Pressure Monitoring

Intracranial pressure monitoring is a benefit of the CSHCN Services Program.

Intracranial pressure monitoring is not limited to specific diagnosis. Acute injury or trauma, such as skull fracture or open or closed head injuries related to automobile accidents, is not a benefit unless the client is program eligible.

Intracranial pressure monitoring uses a sub-arachnoid bolt or screw and a ventricular catheter attached to pressure transducer to measure the intracranial pressure. Careful monitoring after an intracranial operation can reduce the hyperemia and edema that impair cerebral perfusion that could result in ischemia and permanent central nervous system damage.

Authorization is not required for intracranial pressure monitoring. Physicians should use procedure code 2/F/8-61210 to submit a claim for intracranial pressure monitoring. Physicians may be reimbursed the lower of the billed amount or the amount allowed by the Texas Medicaid Program.
