2012 Texas Medicaid Provider Procedures Manual

Clinics and Other Outpatient Facility Services Handbook : 2. Birthing Center : 2.4 Claims Filing and Reimbursement : 2.4.2 Reimbursement : 2.4.2.1 National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) and Medically Unlikely Edit (MUE) Guidelines

2.4.2.1
The Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes included in the Texas Medicaid Provider Procedures Manual and the Texas Medicaid Bulletin are subject to National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) relationships, which supersede any exceptions to NCCI code relationships that may be noted in the manuals and bulletins. Providers should refer to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) NCCI web page at www.medicaid.gov/Medicaid-CHIP-Program-Information/By-Topics/Data-and-Systems/National-Correct-Coding-Initiative.html for correct coding guidelines and specific applicable code combinations.
In instances when Texas Medicaid limitations are more restrictive than NCCI medically unlikely edits (MUE) guidance, Texas Medicaid limitations prevail.
