Extended Health-Care Coverage for Some Foster Care Youth Clients
Information posted October 2, 2009: Senate Bill 10, Section 17, 80th Legislature, Regular Session, 2007 has directed the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to extend health-care coverage to some former foster care youth clients enrolled in an institution of higher education. Effective for dates of service on or after October 1, 2009, HHSC will implement the Health Care for Former Foster Children in Higher Education (FFCHE) program. TMHP will process claims for these clients. Clients may be referred to contact Centralized Benefit Services (CBS) at 1-800-248-1078 for other eligibility requirements for the FFCHE program.

Eligibility information on these clients will not be available in the TMHP system until October 16, 2009. For eligibility inquiries from October 1, 2009, through October 15, 2009, providers may contact HHSC by calling 1-512-206-5434, (Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. until 4.00 p.m.) or by fax at 1-512-206-5141.

Beginning October 16, 2009, eligibility information will be available through the TMHP Automated Inquiry System (AIS) at 1-800-925-9126. Eligibility inquiries will also be available through TexMedConnect and the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) systems.
