TMPPM Update to Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy Handbook

Last updated on

Note: Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to eligible clients. Administrative procedures such as prior authorization, precertification, referrals, and claims/encounter data filing may differ from traditional Medicaid (fee-for-service) and from MCO to MCO. Providers should contact the client's specific MCO for details.

Beginning July 1, 2022, Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership (TMHP) will update the Texas Medicaid Provider Procedures Manual, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy Handbook.

The word “physical” will be removed from the following statement in the Texas Medicaid Provider Procedures Manual, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy Handbook, which is found in both section 5.5.5 “PT, OT, and ST Reimbursement Guidelines,” and section 6.3.5 “PT, OT, and ST Reimbursement Guidelines”:

Physical therapy provided in the nursing home setting is limited to the nursing facility because it must be made available to nursing home residents on an “as needed” basis and must be provided directly by the staff of the facility or furnished by the facility through arrangements with outside qualified resources.
