Upcoming Opportunity to Participate in State-Directed Comprehensive Health Homes for Integrated Care (CHIC) Kids Pilot

Last updated on

Note: This is an advance notification to give providers and STAR Kids managed care organizations (MCOs) time to work together to develop project plans for an MCO-provider pilot for submission to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).

HHSC is issuing an open call to STAR Kids providers and managed care organizations (MCOs) to participate in the Comprehensive Health Homes for Integrated Care (CHIC) Kids Pilot program.

Current STAR Kids providers interested in participating in the pilot will need to partner with an MCO. Participating MCOs will submit project plans for the pilot that will designate providers for the delivery of services.

If you are interested in participating in the pilot, contact the STAR Kids MCOs you are contracted with.

The CHIC Kids Pilot will run from December 2022 to December 2023. The pilot will focus on members of the STAR Kids program who have multiple chronic conditions and are 20 years old or younger.

The goals of the pilot are to:

  • Establish or enhance a health home model that provides care coordination specifically for children with medically complex conditions
  • Improve access to care, health outcomes, and member satisfaction
  • Reduce the administrative burden for MCOs and providers

Participation is voluntary for STAR Kids MCOs, providers, and members and will require providers and MCOs to report on certain measures, which are being finalized.
