COVID-19 Vaccine Counseling Procedure Code G0315 Now a Benefit

Note: Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to Medicaid members who are enrolled in their MCO. Administrative procedures, such as prior authorization, precertification, referrals, and claims and encounter data filing, may differ from traditional Medicaid (fee-for-service) and from MCO to MCO. Providers should contact the member’s specific MCO for details.

Effective for dates of service on or after December 2, 2021, COVID-19 vaccine counseling procedure code G0315 is a benefit of Medicaid and the Texas Health Steps (THSteps) Program for individuals birth through 20 years of age.

Procedure code G0315 will be limited to once per day, for the same provider, as well as three per rolling year, for any provider.

Procedure code G0315 cannot be billed on the same day, by the same provider, for the same client, as any of the following COVID-19 vaccine administration procedure codes:

The Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership (TMHP) has extended the 95-day claims filing deadline for claims submitted. The extension only applies to claims submitted for dates of service on or after December 2, 2021.

Affected claims with dates of service from December 2, 2021, through March 28, 2023, will be reprocessed, and providers may receive additional payment. Additional payments will be reflected on future Remittance and Status (R&S) Reports. Providers are not required to appeal the claims unless they are denied for additional reasons after the claims reprocessing is complete.
