Provider Identifier Usage for Telecommunication Services

Last updated on

Note: Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to eligible clients. Administrative procedures such as prior authorization, pre-certification, referrals, and claims/encounter data filing may differ from traditional Medicaid (fee-for-service) and from MCO to MCO. Providers should contact the client's specific MCO for details.

Reminder: Providers may provide telecommunication services for Texas Medicaid clients under the provider’s Texas Medicaid provider identifier. No additional enrollment is required to provide telemedicine medical services or telehealth services.

Current providers must use the Provider Information Management System (PIMS) to indicate that they provide telemonitoring services.

Providers can refer to the Texas Medicaid Provider Procedures Manual (TMPPM), Vol. 2, Telecommunication Services Handbook, for more information.
