TPI Number Removed from TMHP-Initiated Provider Letters, Effective September 1, 2020

Last updated on

Information posted July 17, 2020

Note: Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to eligible clients. Administrative procedures such as prior authorization, pre-certification, referrals, and claims/encounter data filing may differ from traditional Medicaid (fee-for-service) and from MCO to MCO. Providers should contact the client's specific MCO for details.

Effective September 1, 2020, the Texas Provider Identifier (TPI) number will be removed from select outgoing TMHP-initiated provider letters.

Pursuant to House Bill (HC) 4533, 86th Texas Legislature, Regular Session, 2019, which mandates the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to transition from using local identifiers, such as the TPI to the National Provider Identifier (NPI), effective September 1, 2020, TPI numbers will be removed on identified Accounts Receivable, Medicaid Audit, and Prior Authorization provider letter templates.

In place of the TPI, the end of each letter will be populated with information from the NPI Crosswalk to ensure accurate identification of the provider.
