New Resource for Medicaid ABA Services for Children and Youth with Autism

Note: Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to eligible members. Texas Medicaid MCOs must follow all aspects of the Medicaid Autism Services benefit language as outlined in the TMPPM. Providers should contact the member’s specific MCO for details.

Effective February 1, 2022, the Texas Medicaid Provider Procedures Manual (TMPPM), Children’s Services Handbook, has been updated to include autism services benefits, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) evaluation and treatment. ABA is a benefit of the Texas Health Steps-Comprehensive Care Program (THSteps-CCP) for Texas Medicaid recipients who are 20 years of age or younger and who have met the criteria outlined in the Autism Services benefit description in the TMPPM.
