Reminder of LHD Types of Services

Last updated on

Note: Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to Medicaid members who are enrolled in their MCO. Administrative procedures, such as prior authorization, precertification, referrals, and claims and encounter data filing, may differ from traditional Medicaid (fee-for-service) and from MCO to MCO. Providers should contact the member’s specific MCO for details.

Texas Medicaid may reimburse Local Health Department (LHD) providers for services within their scope of practice.

LHD providers may offer the following types of services to Medicaid clients, including but not limited to:

  • Dental
  • Family planning
  • Immunizations
  • Laboratory
  • Radiology
  • Screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections and infectious diseases
  • Vaccines

LHD providers can refer to the applicable static Fee Schedules on the Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership (TMHP) website at tmhp.com for a complete list of services that Texas Medicaid may reimburse.

Providers may refer to the current Texas Medicaid Provider Procedures Manual (TMPPM), Clinics and Other Outpatient Facility Services Handbook, section 5, “Local Health Department,” for information on LHD services.

For more information, call the TMHP Contact Center at 800-925-9126.
