Clarification to “Electronic Submission Option for MAP Crossover Claims to Be Available December 9, 2024”

Last updated on

This is a clarification to the article titled, “Electronic Submission Option for MAP Crossover Claims to Be Available December 9, 2024,” that was published on this website on September 20, 2024. The word “attachments” in the original article has been replaced with “corresponding attachment” for clarity.

Note: Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to Medicaid members who are enrolled in their MCO. Administrative procedures, such as prior authorization, precertification, referrals, and claims and encounter data filing, may differ from traditional Medicaid (fee-for-service) and from MCO to MCO. Providers should contact the member’s specific MCO for details.

Beginning December 9, 2024, Texas Medicaid acute care providers will have the option to submit Medicare Advantage Plan (MAP) crossover claims and the corresponding attachment electronically. To make an electronic submission, providers must submit the following items at the same time:

  • An electronic data interchange (EDI) claims transaction, EDI X12 837
  • An EDI X12 275, the corresponding attachment containing the Medicare explanation of benefits (EOB)

Complete details are available in the updated 837I and 837P Acute Care Companion Guides and the new 275 Acute Care Guide.

Electronic Claims

Current EDI claim submitters intending to submit MAP claims electronically must:

Only EDI X12 275 attachment transactions will be accepted for MAP claims. Attachments for all other claim types will be rejected.
