Provider Enrollment on the Portal Instructions
Important: You must be enrolled in Traditional Medicaid before enrolling in CSHCN or Texas Health Steps. Select "Add to an Existing Enrollment," then click "Apply Filters" if you would like instructions for adding CSHCN or Texas Health Steps to your existing enrollment.

Provider Specialty/Taxonomy

Instructions for Completing the Provider Specialty/Taxonomy page.

This page does not apply to CSHCN Providers.

  • Program: Traditional Medicaid
  • Select "Yes" or "No" for "Do you offer telemonitoring services?"
  • Enter a TPI into the "Group TPI" field.
  • If you are enrolling as a performing provider in an existing group, you must enter your group TPI.
  • Select a re-enrolling TPI from the drop-down menu.
  • Select a specialty from the "Primary Specialty" drop-down menu.
  • Your primary specialty must match your Medicare provider specialty or service.
  • Your primary specialty must match the primary specialty that is currently on file for your TPI.
  • Select a sub-specialty from the "Sub-specialty" drop-down menu.
  • Note: Case Management for Children and Pregnant Women (CPW) providers, Texas Health Steps providers, and SHARS providers must select a subspecialty.
  • Click Retrieve Taxonomies.
  • Select the appropriate taxonomy code in the "Available Codes" box.
  • Select your taxonomy code based on the services that you provide. You will only see the taxonomy codes that are specific to the services that are rendered by the provider type and specialty that you selected.
  • Click Add Primary. The taxonomy code will move into the "Primary Taxonomy Code" box.
  • If applicable, click Add Secondary. The taxonomy code will move into the "Secondary Taxonomy Codes" box.
  • Click Continue and Save.
  • Program: Texas Health Steps Dental
  • Enter a TPI into the "Group TPI" field.
  • If you are enrolling as a performing provider in an existing group, you must enter your group TPI.
  • Select a re-enrolling TPI from the drop-down menu.
  • Select a specialty from the "Primary Specialty" drop-down menu
  • Your primary specialty must match the primary specialty that is currently on file for your TPI.
  • Select a sub-specialty from the "Sub-specialty" drop-down menu.
  • Click Retrieve Taxonomies.
  • Select the appropriate taxonomy code in the "Available Codes" box.
  • Select your taxonomy code based on the services that you provide. You will only see the taxonomy codes that are specific to the services that are rendered by the provider type and specialty that you selected.

  • Select the appropriate taxonomy code, if required, in the "Available Codes" box.
  • If applicable, you may click Add Secondary. The taxonomy code will move into the "Secondary Taxonomy Codes" box.
  • Click Continue and Save.
  • Program: Texas Health Steps Medical
  • Select a TPI from the "Re-enrolling TPI" drop-down menu.
  • Select a specialty from the "Primary Specialty" drop-down menu.
  • Your primary specialty must match the primary specialty that is currently on file for your TPI.
  • Select a sub-specialty from the "Sub-specialty" drop-down menu.
  • Click Retrieve Taxonomies.
  • Select the appropriate taxonomy code in the "Available Codes" box.
  • Click Add Primary. The taxonomy code will move into the "Primary Taxonomy Code" box.
  • Click Add Secondary to move any applicable codes to the "Secondary Taxonomy Codes" box.
  • Click Continue and Save.
  • Note: This page does not apply to the CSHCN program.
