CSHCN Services Program

Last updated on 5/31/2020

The Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) Services Program provides health benefits and family support services to children 20 or younger who have special care needs and people of any age with a diagnosis of cystic fibrosis. With a focus on offering clients a medical home, the CSHCN Services Program promotes a family-centered, community-based, culturally-sensitive, and coordinated-care approach to service delivery and continuity.

The CSHCN Services Program is not an entitlement program and is separate from Medicaid. However, some clients might be dually eligible for Medicaid/CHIP and the CSHCN Services Program. Dual eligible clients do not receive benefits from the CSHCN Services Program and Medicaid/CHIP at the same time. The CSHCN Services Program covers dual eligible clients when they lose their Medicaid/CHIP coverage, or when the service is not a benefit of Medicaid/CHIP.

TMHP supports the CSHCN Services Program in the areas of provider enrollment, provider relations, provider training, prior authorization, claims, and publications.

If you would like to enroll in the CSHCN Services Program, you must be enrolled in Texas Medicaid.
