Hepatitis B Vaccine Procedure Code 90739 to Become a Benefit Effective September 1, 2021

Note: Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to eligible clients. Administrative procedures such as prior authorization, pre-certification, referrals, and claims/encounter data filing may differ from traditional Medicaid (fee-for-service) and from MCO to MCO. Effective for dates of service on or after September 1, 2021, hepatitis B vaccine procedure 90739 will become a benefit for Texas Medicaid.

Procedure code 90739 is a two-dose hepatitis B vaccine approved for use in adults 18 years of age and older that can be administered over a time frame of one month.

Procedure code 90739 may be reimbursed for clients who are 18 years of age and older as follows:

Office Physician assistant, nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, physician, pharmacist, certified nurse midwife, registered nurse, licensed midwife, comprehensive care provider (CCP), and pharmacy providers
Home Physician assistant, nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, physician, and CCP providers
Outpatient Hospital Hospital providers
Other Locations Physician assistant, nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, physician, and CCP providers
