Voluntary Recall of Similac Products (Including Total Comfort, Spit Up, and Sensitive), Alimentum, and Elecare

Note: Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to eligible clients. Administrative procedures such as prior authorization, precertification, referrals, and claims/encounter data filing may differ from traditional Medicaid (fee-for-service) and from MCO to MCO. Providers should contact the client's specific MCO for details.

There is a voluntary recall of Similac products (including Total Comfort, Spit Up, and Sensitive), Alimentum, and Elecare. Isomil and Neosure are not impacted. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has been in contact with Abbott and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USDA) about the recall and is working to determine what actions will need to be undertaken.

What Parents and Caregivers Should Do

These are Abbott’s recommended action steps for clients to take regarding the recall:

The products under recall have a multi-digit number on the bottom of the container. This number will:

  • Begin with two digits between 22 through 37
  • Contain K8, SH, or Z2
  • Have an expiration date of April 1, 2022, or after

To find out if a product is included in this recall, visit similacrecall.com and type in the code on the bottom of the package, or call 800-986-8540 and follow the instructions provided. No action is needed for previously consumed product. If clients have questions about feeding their child, they must contact their healthcare professional.
