Telehealth New Place of Service (POS) Code (Code 10) Available, Effective January 1, 2022

Note: Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to eligible clients. Administrative procedures such as prior authorization, precertification, referrals, and claims/encounter data filing may differ from traditional Medicaid (fee-for-service) and from MCO to MCO. Providers should contact the client's specific MCO for details.

Effective January 1, 2022, a new place of service (POS) code (code 10) is available for providers who provide telehealth services to patients who attend the telehealth appointments in their own homes.

Providers should continue to use POS code 02 when telehealth is provided and the patients attend the telehealth appointments anywhere other than their own homes (e.g., a hospital or skilled nursing facility).
