CMS Publishes Revised CLIA Requirements About COVID-19 Test Reporting

Last updated on

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has issued revised QSO-21-10-CLIA.

The revised memo announces the publishing of the updated Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments reporting guidance by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. The guidance was published March 8, 2022, and is effective April 4, 2022. As a result, CMS has updated the CLIA Surveyor Guidance and FAQs.

Texas long-term care facilities with a CLIA waiver or certificate should still report all required and optional (as listed in the U.S. HHS reporting guidance) COVID-19 test data through the National Healthcare Safety Network. This meets state reporting requirements.

By reporting testing data to NHSN, facilities meet the state reporting requirements. They do not need to report to DSHS or their local health department.
