ProAir HFA Inhaler Discontinuation

Last updated on

The ProAir HFA inhaler was discontinued by the manufacturer on October 1, 2022. Alternative preferred asthma inhalers on the Texas Medicaid Preferred Drug List (PDL) include the Proventil HFA and Ventolin HFA inhalers.

After the current market inventory of ProAir HFA inhalers is exhausted, the inhaler will no longer be available by prescription. However, the preferred status for ProAir HFA inhalers will remain in effect to allow pharmacies to dispense the remaining stock. The generic albuterol inhalers on the PDL will remain nonpreferred.

Prescribers are encouraged to proactively change prescriptions for ProAir HFA to an alternative preferred inhaler: Proventil HFA or Ventolin HFA. Proactive prescription changes will reduce delays in patient access to medication.
