TMPPM Correction for Bone-Anchored Hearing Devices (BAHDs)

Last updated on

Note: Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to Medicaid members who are enrolled in their MCO. Administrative procedures, such as prior authorization, precertification, referrals, and claims and encounter data filing, may differ from traditional Medicaid (fee-for-service) and from MCO to MCO. Providers should contact the member’s specific MCO for details.

On April 1, 2023, the Texas Medicaid Provider Procedures Manual, Vision and Hearing Services Handbook (TMPPM), will be corrected to include language for bone-anchored hearing devices (BAHDs).

The following statement will be added to section 3.2.3.2, “Limitations”:

“If chosen by a client, a BAHD processor worn on a soft headband is also a benefit for clients who are five years of age or older.”

For more information about this benefit, providers can refer to the article, “Benefit and Policy Language Will Change for Hearing Devices, Effective November 1, 2018,” which was published on the Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership (TMHP) website on September 21, 2018.
