Change in PDL Status for Otic Antibiotics Drug Class Effective December 18, 2023

Last updated on

Effective December 18, 2023, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) removed the non-preferred status for generic ciprofloxacin/dexamethasone otic drops on the Preferred Drug List (PDL). This change was made because the manufacturer discontinued the brand-name Ciprodex otic drops. The preferred status of brand-name Ciprodex will not change. This will allow the existing stock of these medications to be used.

HHSC removed the non-preferred status for the following drugs, effective December 18, 2023:

National Drug CodeDrug Name
00781618667Ciprofloxacin-Dexamethasone Otic Susp
16714062801Ciprofloxacin-Dexamethasone Otic Susp
43598032675Ciprofloxacin-Dexamethasone Otic Susp

Note: These changes will allow providers to prescribe the generic otic drops without requiring PDL prior authorization and continue to access necessary medication for clients.
