Upcoming Automatic RUG Recalculations for MDS Assessments on the TMHP LTC Online Portal

Last updated on

Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership (TMHP) identified an error in the Minimum Data Set (MDS) Resource Utilization Group (RUG) calculation on the Long-Term Care Online Portal (LTCOP). The identified error is characterized by the addition of an erroneous "-1" value in Section RUG field D0300. This caused some assessments to calculate a slightly lower RUG value than expected.

The root cause of the issue has been fixed.

HHS and TMHP will recalculate the RUG on the affected forms beginning Monday, December 2, 2024. The recalculation process results in a correction of the original MDS and a child assessment on the LTCOP. The parent MDS will contain a note in the history trail.

No Action Required

No provider action is required. The LTCOP system will process the recalculations. Impacted claims will be reprocessed and payment changes will be reflected on the Remittance and Status (R&S) Report.
