Change in PDL Status for Stimulants and Related Agents Drug Class Effective August 11, 2025

Last updated on

Effective August 11, 2025, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) will remove the non-preferred status from the generic methylphenidate patch products on the preferred drug list (PDL) because of product shortages.

The manufacturer of brand-name Daytrana patch products indicated that these shortages are the result of product backorders caused by shortages of the active ingredient.

The non-preferred status has been removed from the following drugs:

National Drug Code (NDC)Drug Name
00378826093Methylphenidate 10 mg/9 hr patch
00378826193Methylphenidate 15 mg/9 hr patch
00378826293Methylphenidate 20 mg/9 hr patch
00378826393Methylphenidate 30 mg/9 hr patch

These changes allow providers to prescribe the generic methylphenidate patch products without requiring a PDL prior authorization. This helps ensure that clients can continue to access essential medications.
