New ICD-10 COVID-19 Procedure Codes for Therapeutics and Vaccines

Effective for dates of service on or after January 1, 2021, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is implementing 21 new surgical procedure codes for International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) COVID-19 therapeutics and vaccines, including antibody treatments and immunomodulators, into the ICD-10 Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS) for inpatient hospital surgical procedure codes.

The 21 new codes will be included in the All Patient Refined-Diagnosis Related Groups (APR-DRG) software Version 38.1 update, which is scheduled for release on December 29, 2020.
