CPR and Choking Prevention Certification and Recertification in CLASS and DBMD

Last updated on

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and choking prevention certification for CLASS and DBMD program providers is required when first hired and then annually. This is per the Texas Administrative Code §45.804(b)(1&2) and §42.403(c). The CLASS Provider Manual provides clarification and guidance not listed in TAC.

TAC and the CLASS Provider Manual refers to a services provider of:

  • Prevocational services.
  • Respite.
  • CFC PAS/HAB.
  • Transportation-habilitation.

DBMD TAC refers to a service provider of:

  • Licensed assisted living.
  • Licensed home health assisted living.
  • Day habilitation.
  • Employment assistance.
  • Transportation-residential habilitation.
  • Respite.
  • Supported employment.
  • CFC PAS/HAB.

Service providers can take a CPR and choking prevention course and a written test online to complete the requirement. There must be an in-person evaluation by a qualified instructor. The qualified instructor does not have to work for the entity providing the on-line training.
