Developmental Screening and Mental Health Screening Tools Added for CSHCN

Effective for dates of service on or after July 1, 2021, new screening tools, one for developmental screenings for children and another for mental health screenings for adolescents, will be added for the Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) Services Program.

The Survey of Well-being of Young Children (SWYC) will be added as a recognized developmental screening tool for children who are birth through 6 years of age.

The Rapid Assessment for Adolescent Preventative Services (RAAPS) will be added as a recognized mental health screening tool for adolescents who are 12 through 18 years of age.

Providers may refer to the current CSHCN Services Program Provider Manual, section 31.2.17.9.5, “Developmental Screening,” and section 31.2.17.10.2, “Mental Health Screening,” for more information.
