Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Season Ends on March 1, 2023

Last updated on

On March 1, 2023, the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) will end Synagis prophylaxis therapy for the season’s respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in all regions. The regular 2022-2023 RSV season began on October 17, 2022, and it was considered separate from the inter-seasonal RSV activities observed during the summer of 2022.

HHSC based this decision on recommendations from the Texas RSV task force and the HHSC Office of the Medical Director (OMD). The recommendations were made after a continued decline in RSV test positivity was recorded below the threshold for two consecutive weeks.

HHSC will continue to monitor RSV across the state and notify the public about any updates related to access to Synagis prophylaxis treatment.
