Procedure Codes from 2023 Annual HCPCS Update to Be Added to Implantable Infusion Pump Benefits on June 1, 2023, for Texas Medicaid

Note: Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to Medicaid members who are enrolled in their MCO. Administrative procedures, such as prior authorization, precertification, referrals, and claims and encounter data filing, may differ from traditional Medicaid (fee-for-service) and from MCO to MCO. Providers should contact the member’s specific MCO for details.

Effective for dates of service on or after June 1, 2023, pain management as part of implantable infusion pump services will be a benefit of Texas Medicaid.

Chronic pain management (CPM) and treatment procedure codes G3002 and G3003 will be a benefit for the following providers and places of service:

Office, inpatient hospital, nursing home (skilled nursing facility, intermediate care facility, or extended care facility), and outpatient hospital settings	Physician assistant (PA), nurse practitioner (NP), clinical nurse specialist (CNS), and physician providers
Home setting	PA, NP, CNS, physician, and home health agency providers

Chronic pain is defined as persistent or recurrent pain that lasts more than three months; pain symptoms manifest similarly to that of acute pain.

The first time that procedure code G3002 is billed, the physician or qualified health practitioner must see the client in person. After the initial visit, any of the CPM in-person components included in procedure codes G3002 and G3003 may be provided through telehealth, as clinically appropriate, to increase access to care for Medicaid clients.

Evaluation and management services and CPM may be billed on the same day if all requirements to report each service are met, and the time spent providing CPM services does not represent time spent for providing any other reported service.
