Note: Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to eligible clients. Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must follow all aspects of the Medicaid Autism Services benefit language as outlined in the TMPPM. Providers should contact the client's specific MCO for details.

On December 1, 2023, the Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership (TMHP) will update the Texas Medicaid Provider Procedures Manual (TMPPM), Children’s Services Handbook, subsection 2.3.3 “Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluation,” to add a note on current language that defines an allowed practitioner.

The following language will be reiterated in the “Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluation” subsection:

Note: An allowed practitioner is an individual who is licensed in Texas as a physician assistant (PA), a certified nurse practitioner (NP), or a clinical nurse specialist (CNS).
