Updates for BAHD Procedure Codes 92622 and 92623 for Texas Medicaid

Last updated on

Note: Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to Medicaid members who are enrolled in their MCO. Administrative procedures, such as prior authorization, precertification, referrals, and claims and encounter data filing, may differ from traditional Medicaid (fee-for-service) and from MCO to MCO. Providers should contact the member’s specific MCO for details.

On July 1, 2024, the Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership (TMHP) will update the Texas Medicaid Provider Procedures Manual, Vision and Hearing Services Handbook to move diagnostic analysis procedure codes 92622 and 92623 from section 3.2.1, “Cochlear Implants,” to section 3.2.3, “Bone-Anchored Hearing Device (BAHD).”

Claims Reprocessing

TMHP has identified an issue that affects claims for procedure codes 92622 and 92623 that were submitted for dates of service on or after January 1, 2024. Claims may have been denied for clients who are six years of age or younger.

Affected claims that were submitted with dates of service on or after January 1, 2024, will be reprocessed. Providers may receive additional payment when the claims are reprocessed.
