Abandoned LARC Products Eligible for Return

Last updated on

Manufacturers of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) products allow prescribers to return abandoned LARC products using an abandoned unit return form.

Providers can refer to the “Long-Acting Reversible Contraception Products” section of the Texas Medicaid Provider Procedures Manual (TMPPM), Outpatient Drug Services Handbook, for information on:

  • How to return abandoned LARC products to the manufacturer.
  • Links to the return forms.
  • How clients who are enrolled in Medicaid fee-for-service can get LARC products.

LARCs are available to Medicaid fee-for-service or Medicaid managed care clients through the Medicaid pharmacy or medical benefits.

Clients who are enrolled in managed care should use the MCO Search to find their managed care organization’s (MCO’s) contact information, and then contact the MCO to determine which pharmacy should receive the prescription form. The MCO may be contracted with a single specialty pharmacy.
