Members Sought for the Texas Medical Disclosure Panel

Last updated on

If you’re interested in issues involving the disclosure of risks and hazards related to medical care and surgical procedures, you may want to apply to be a member of the Texas Medical Disclosure Panel.

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission executive commissioner will appoint three (3) members representing the public (at least one with background in health literacy), four (4) physicians licensed to practice medicine in Texas, and one (1) attorney licensed to practice law in Texas (with experience in representing patients) to the panel to serve a term expiring either August 31, 2031 or August 31, 2032, depending upon the current expiration date of the position.

Applications are due by 11:59 p.m., March 13, 2026.

HHSC will consider the applicants' qualifications, background, and interest in serving on the panel and will choose panel members who represent the geographic diversity of all Texans.

A Texas Medical Disclosure Panel member must regularly take part in panel meetings. They may also have to take part in subcommittee meetings or other related activities. Panel meetings are held about once every three months in Austin or at the call of the presiding officer. Members must travel to Austin for these meetings unless HHSC allows members to participate in other ways (such as virtually via Microsoft Teams, etc.).

To the extent permitted by the current state budget, a panel member may be reimbursed for their travel expenses to and from meetings if funds are available and in accordance with the HHSC Travel Policy.

HHSC prefers that you submit your application electronically, but you may submit the application by email, mail or fax to the following addresses:
