September 2026 TMPPM Update for Solid Organ Transplants

Last updated on

On September 1, 2026, the Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership (TMHP) will update section 9.2.51, “Organ/Tissue Transplants,” in the Texas Medicaid Provider Procedures Manual (TMPPM), Medical and Nursing Specialists, Physicians, and Physician Assistants Handbook to remove the reference to thymus transplant.

Thymus transplant may be covered by Texas Medicaid when the procedure is medically necessary for children who are birth through 20 years of age. The procedure is available through Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) coverage.

1905(a) Medicaid Services

Medicaid programs must cover all medically necessary 1905(a) services that are needed to treat or manage a health condition or to prevent a health condition from getting worse, as allowed under federal law.

For more information, call the TMHP Contact Center at 800-925-9126.

Note: Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to Medicaid members who are enrolled in their MCO. Administrative procedures, such as prior authorization, precertification, referrals, and claims and encounter data filing, may differ from traditional Medicaid (fee-for-service) and from MCO to MCO. Providers should contact the member’s specific MCO for details.
