Change in PDL Status for Hypoglycemics, Insulin and Related Drug Class Effective July 27, 2026

Last updated on

Effective July 27, 2026, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has temporarily removed the nonpreferred status of certain insulin products on the Medicaid preferred drug list (PDL) because of shipping delays and product backorders of Lantus Solostar by its manufacturer, Sanofi.

The nonpreferred status has been removed from the following drugs:

National Drug CodeDrug Name
00002771501Basaglar 100 unit/milliliter KwikPen
00002771559Basaglar 100 unit/milliliter KwikPen

These changes allow providers to prescribe certain insulin products without obtaining PDL prior authorization. This helps ensure that clients can continue to have access to essential medications.
